Whether you’re new to your town or you’ve been there for a long time, there’s always a chance that locals and visitors are passing you by every day! This is where listing and directory websites can come in handy. They’re the yellow pages of the new age. Not only do they help folks find out where you are and when you’re open, they help increase your presence on places like Google and other search engines. The more information there is about your business on the internet, the more likely you’ll get found.

Here’s our top five places we believe you absolutely need to make sure you not only have a presence on but are websites you’re checking in on weekly for accurate information and user reviews (more on reviews later).

Google Business

Make sure you’ve filled out as much information as you can on here. Your hours, business photos, logo, website, special hours (holidays). This is a great place to see stats and insights on how many people are visiting your location. You’ll need a valid email and phone number to set it up.

Yelp

Yelp isn’t just for restaurants anymore! Retail and service business can also be listed here.

Yelp is also great resource to make sure you’re listed in Apple Maps on iPhones.

Trip Advisor

Restaurants, retailers and attractions will want to be listed here. This is great for tourism and brings in folks who may be visiting your town.

Bing

While bing may not be as big of a player as Google, many computers and web browsers default to Bing and it’s important to make sure you are listed wherever someone may be looking for you.

Facebook

Having a presence on social media is an entire blog’s worth of content. But for the sake of what we’re talking about, you MUST have a page for your business on facebook. At the very least, it is another place to share about who you are, your location, hours and contact info. This is a good starting point for your social media presence.
